Senior Choir Page Update

The Senior Choir page has been updated with important dates that will be happening this term.

It's going to be a busy term for the Senior Choir in preparation for the Massed Choir Festival!

Term 3 Update

Welcome back to Music in Term 3!

I am very happy with how all classes have settled back into the classroom after their term break.

This term students will continue to build upon skills and concepts covered earlier in the year, with a focus on melody and form.

Here is a quick look at what each year group has been working on.

Year 1

The Year 1 students have mastered their Ta, Ti-Ti and Za rhythm notes, and are now able to read, write and perform rhythms without the aid of 'beat bubbles'. They have also added a new rhythm note, Ta-aa, to their repertoire.

The Year 1's have been singing beautifully and are able to sight sing melodies that use the notes Do, Re and Mi.

This term we are using the boomwhackers and tapping sticks to perform a song called 'Flying Man'.

Year 2

In Year 2, students are continuing to study the difference between melody and accompaniment. We have been learning a song called 'Dinosaurs' which involves singing and performing on boomwhackers and tapping sticks.

Year 3

The Year 3's have been very excited to begin learning the ukulele this term. They are all able to hold the ukulele correctly and perform the C chord in time to a piece of music.

We have been examining the characteristics of verse and chorus and trying to recognise the different sections of a song when heard.

The Year 3's are applying their knowledge of verse and chorus, as well as their ukulele skills, through learning to play and sing 'London Bridge'.

Year 4

Year 4 students have begun learning how to read notes using the treble staff. We have been using rhymes such as "FACE in the space" and "Every Good Boy Deserves Fruit" to help us remember what each note is called.

Year 4's have also continued to build upon the ukulele skills covered in Year 3. They are learning to sing and perform a song called "I'm A Peanut" which involves some tricky rhythms and chord changes.

Year 5 and 6

Year 5 and 6 students are adding more chords to their ukulele repertoire, including the A minor chord and C7 chord. We have been learning to perform a ukulele song in Rondo form (A-B-A-C-A), which students will then compose their own melody to later in the term.

I'm looking forward to our time together in the Music room this term.

Well Done to the Junior and Senior Choirs!

Congratulations to both the Junior and Senior Choirs for their amazing performances at the ANZAC Day Ceremony and Week 1 assembly. You all sung beautifully and I am looking forward to learning many more new songs with you all this term.

For Senior Choir members, the "Senior Choir" page has been updated with information about how to access the Massed Choir Festival website. Please read it carefully as it is a valuable tool for learning all of our new songs.

See you all at choir rehearsals!
